Presented as part of Inhospitable Environments

March 31-April 1 2022 | SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts - Studio D

Installation/Performance

Creation/Performance/Design: June Hsu and Bernice Paet

What happens when we ignore our traumas, pushing them down as if forgotten? What do we do when the words from our pasts are brought back up, crippling our daily lives? kindling conversations seeks to explore the consequences of such traumatic events and the psychological burns left from our childhood pasts. This performance contains a prompt for audience interaction:

Crumpled Brown Paper

Write down a phrase told to you that impacted you negatively when you were younger.

(or make something up)

Crumple it up.

Toss it into the tent.

The words and stories written by the audience members will later be interacted with by the performers; revealing the aftermaths of the words. This performance has mentions of traumatic events, death, and self harm. It is not suitable for children under 15.
