i like her

(UPCOMING) Presented as part of Live Acts Festival 2024

April 3+6 2024 | Fei & Milton Wong Experimental Theatre

What more can we discover about ourselves when revisiting memories? i like her is an autobiographical solo performance about the joy and grief that comes with realizing one’s identity. There is space for sadness to co-exist with happiness.

Found objects are integrated with light and digital media to create new interpretations of diary entries. Smushed playdough, built structures, audio recordings of diary entries, and spoken monologues are combined as a form of storytelling. Throughout the show, audiences watch Isa, who is now a 22 year old college student, as she relives her memories and goes through a same-sex crush, a questioning, a betrayal, a confrontation, and an effort in accepting all of the above. This performance is the outcome of an uneasy and vulnerable process of facing and sharing the truth and recognizing the importance for growing and moving on. i like her is a story of remembering, remaking, and reconnecting. We go into the past, create new situations, and find what it means to go back to ourselves.
