BERNICE PAET
I am a stage manager and interdisciplinary artist who creates installations and performance works that engage with design, including collage, light, and video projection. I enjoy storytelling through these forms and playing with how they can affect a space.
I am moved by the love I find around me and in other cases, have lost. I find that I am someone with big feelings and it pulls me to create work that reflects them. I often share what is going on in my head with my friends and I feel so lucky whenever I get to create art with them. Creating in community is something I cherish as I know team effort can make something much bigger than I.
My current curiosity is the impact of relationships in all the experiences and forms they may come in. I find excitement in the process of connecting with people and objects on a deeper level and the relationship that is built from them. Therefore, striving to create works that showcase intimacy that is built physically and emotionally. I enjoy making works that encourage the audience to take a closer look and build togetherness through themes surrounding mental health, vulnerability, and relationships.
Being a queer Filipino woman born from immigrant parents has led me to be silent in many phases of my life. My art is created as a form of expression that offers a space for people who have similar experiences to feel supported to be who they are. My artistic practice emphasizes the importance of being seen, even in the littlest things.
